Team Katy
Update: 2-6-13
1-19: Pickup day!! I said I wasn't going to do any work with Katy since I'd
just brought her home.. Well that didn't happen! Lol. I jumped on her
bareback, layed on her, desensitized her to a rope and saddled her up. She
didn't bat an eye at any of this!
1-20: I saddled Katy up and ponyed her off my gelding Koda. Took them down
the road, over a wooden bridge, through a dirt field, past a construction site
for the pipline that had flags, etc., and even past a fire! She didn't have a
problem with any of this and never offered to buck or spook.. In fact she was
calmer than my gelding!
1-21: Today I saddled Katy up and hooked up some draw reins. I ground drove
her for over an hour and she took to it like an old pro! After that, I got
some reins, got on her, and rode her around. She never offered to buck and did
everything I asked of her. I rode her around for around 30 minutes.
1-23: Today I saddled Katy up and ground drove her for 30 minutes. Then I
got on her and rode her around with no problems. I have noticed that she is
head strong, but its nothing major. She will just shake her head and toss it
around.
1-26: Well today I finally did it! Up till now its just been riding Katy at
a trot and a jog. I rode her down the road to one of our fields and finally
galloped her! She didn't offer to buck, hump up, or anything! This little mare
is amazing! There were some ducks on the river and she spooked when they flew
but settled right back down. I also took her and rode her down the road and
across the bridge. Went right over no hesitation what so ever! I rode her
beside 66 and she didn't mind the cars. Didn't even take a second look when a
semi went by, or a loud truck with a trailer. She is doing amazing!!
1-27: Rode her on some trails today. She did great, as expected!
1-28: Today I rode Katy bareback. I layed on her, jumped right up on her
from the ground, and slid off her butt. No reaction! Lol. This girl is so layed back!!
*The second day I had Katy, I realized she doesn't liked to be brushed or
have you around her hind end. I brush her before I ride her and after I
unsaddle her and she likes to be brushed now. She wouldn't let me brush her
back legs and would try to kick me but I also clean her feet after I ride her
so both problems have went away!
2-6: I have ridden Katy everywhere! She has been ridden beside 66 for
miles, rode through the middle of a pond, on numerous trails, crossed bridges,
chased cattle, been around the barrels, etc. This girl already has quite a few
miles on her! She has been everywhere. She takes to new things in stride and
doesn't spook. She is a just an all around amazing little mare!
