Ami
Ami came into our rescue program on July 31, 2007, along with 43 other horses that were severely neglected and starved from the Forest Park & Spencer, Oklahoma area. We were called by the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, Forest Park Police Department and Spencer Police Department to assist in the seizure of the 44 horses. Ami is a sweet, Chestnut, Yearling Filly. Ami's foster mom, states that Ami was one of the first ones to approach her (hence her arabic name Aminah or Ami, which means trustworthy). Ami is Halter broke and broke to lead. She gets along great with all the other horses. She loves to graze and has to be called for dinner, as she always has her head down and grazing in the pasture. Ami is seeking her loving, forever home of her own. Ami has a current negative coggins, up to date on vaccinations, deworming, and hoof maintenance.
If you are interested in giving Ami a loving, forever home, please submit an
application today.
Update 01-08-09 Ami is now a sweet 2 year old and still looking for that forever, loving home. She is a super sweet horse, very smart. Ami's foster home has been doing some ground work with her and she has responded very well. She picks up on things very quickly, such as not pulling on the halter, walking over you when being lead, etc., She is a very laid back horse, nothing seems to get her stirred up. She gets along great with other horses. She is low on the pecking order, but doesn't seem to mind. She is a gorgeous girl with a beautiful mane and tail. She would make someone an excellent horse. She would be easy to train and is ready to have her own family.
Update 6-1-09 Ami has really grown into quite a beautiful girl! She has been through some basic ground work, she has been saddled and has been sat on bareback. She would be extremely easy to train and finish your way. She is a super sweet girl and is ready for that loving forever home to call her own.
Update 1/1/10 Ami was returned by her adoptive family. Ami apparently had some issues with fences, and went through several processes of injuring herself. Ami was returned and we are allowing her to be a horse and just hang out. So far, Ami has not had any issues with the fences and has not injured herself in any way. Ami is seeking a forever, loving home of her own.
Update May 14, 2011 Ami was picked for our Blaze's Ride to the Rescue Trainer Challenge. She was chosen by Trainer Rachel Dunlap. Saturn
Saturn is a super sweet, Sorrel, Quarter Horse, Gelding. He is estimated to be 4 years of age. Saturn is one of the horses that broke my heart the minute he attempted to come off the trailer, after finally arriving back in Oklahoma on safe ground. Saturn could barely walk and you can tell that it took every effort possible to just take a few steps. I imagine that this poor boy has been turned out to pasture and left to try and hobble around. You could clearly tell he was in pain. We immediately made arrangements for Saturn to be seen by our Veterinarian the next day. X-rays showed that Saturn has large p3 extensive process fractures and bilateral chronic laminitis with severe subsolar abscesses. Thankfully, his abscesses are healing and the infection is under control. Saturn has been placed in hospital plates on his front feet. He is walking comfortably and gaining more confidence to test his new shoes daily. Saturn will always need to be in front shoes. The shoes will provide comfort and allow him to remain sound on his front legs. . For the trainer who chooses Saturn, Blaze's will subsidize the cost of keeping him in shoes during the competition. We will pay for any shoeing above the average cost of a trim since all competitors will be responsible for the cost of trimming during the competition period. Saturn is a complete sweetheart. He handled his twice daily injections with no problems. He never batted eye while doctoring his feet daily. He is a complete love bug and deserves a wonderful, forever, loving family. Saturn has a current negative coggins, up to date on vaccinations, deworming, hoof maintenance with corrective shoes, x-rays, and teeth floating.
Update 4/12/2011 Saturn is doing great, he has gained a lot of weight and looks absolutely beautiful. He has come so far since the day he came off that trailer. He is a beautiful, very stout gelding. He is sound with front shoes on and will need to remain in front shoes, however, that does not prevent him from being a wonderful pleasure/trail horse. Saturn will be featured in our upcoming Blaze's Ride to the Rescue Trainer Challenge, scheduled for August 20, 2011. We are so excited to see the next step in Saturn's life.

Jet
Jet came into our rescue program on May 1st, 2009 from Beckham County. Jet came into rescue along with 39 other horses, 12 Donkeys and a mule that were severely starved and neglected in Sayre, Oklahoma. Neighbors reported seeing several dead animals on the property to the Beckham County Sheriff's Office on April 28, 2009. Approximately 45 horse carcasses were located in different states of decomposition. The remaining 52 horses were found infested with internal and external parasites, injuries left untreated, hooves in extremely poor condition, some pregnant, one with a dislocated hip and another with a broken leg and body conditions ranging from a 1 to a 3. None of these horses were being properly cared for or had received proper Veterinary care in quite some time. Some of the horses hooves had growth over a year old. This is by far, one of the worst rescues we have seen. These horses have suffered a great deal. However, the ones that did not make it, suffered more than they should have been allowed. Horses were found dead, where they had dug themselves a hole and clearly suffered and died. It was devastating! We were able to save 52 horses, all of which are doing wonderful!
