Jones, Oklahoma (July 27, 2011) They say they can gentle an untrained horse. Now nine Oklahoma horse "whispering" trainers are competing to prove that point – this time with rescued horses at the Blaze’s Tribute Ride to the Rescue Trainers’ Challenge on August 20. The horses, some just 3 years old, have already struggled through the hardships of extreme neglect and abuse and will now have an opportunity to demonstrate their inspiring spirit. “The Challenge is an event designed to showcase the skills of local equine trainers, while increasing the adoptability of previously untrained rescue horses”, said Natalee Cross, director of Blazes Tribute Equine Rescue.
In May, area trainers were given thirty minutes to observe and evaluate their potential equine partners for the competition. The trainers’ names were then drawn from a hat to determine selection order. Once the trainers had selected their horse, they had just 100 days to create a well-trained equine partner. Trainers will reconvene on August 20, 2011 at the Heart of Oklahoma Shawnee Expo Center with their horses to show what they have accomplished and compete for prizes including a $1000 cash prize and trophy saddle.
This exciting event will kick off at 11:00 a.m. at the Heart of Oklahoma Shawnee Expo Center. The opening ceremony will include The Oklahoma County Mounted Patrol leading the grand entry. General admission tickets are $5.00 at the door. Event tickets that include an awards banquet are $20.00 and must be pre-purchased by August 15 online. Various prizes, vendor booths and childrens’ activites will add to a fun-filled day. In the end, everyone wins: all the newly trained horses will be available for adoption through Blazes Tribute Equine Rescue.
